Step 1. 

Attend the club for an introductory discussion with the Membership Secretary or their nominee on a Sunday between 10:30am to 11.30am. 

You must complete the membership application and pay your membership fees online here. 

Please read these documents before your interview:

• New Member Information Pack

• DPC Membership Flowchart – new member without H licence
• Category H Licence information from the NT Police website
• DPC Rules, Policies and Code of Conduct.

After the first visit, you must return to the club on another Sunday with two written character references to process your membership application and pay fees. The club will give you a support certificate to take to the NT Police to submit your application for a H Class permit.

Step 2.

Once the NT Firearms Unit grants you a permit, you will be required to complete a safety course, also called a holster course, and attend a number of club matches.

Step 3.

After you’ve passed the safety course, the DPC Committee will issue you a Certificate of Firearms Club Membership to apply for a Category H Sports Shooter Licence.

Step 1.

People who already hold a H class licence can apply to be members of Darwin Pistol Club.

Step 2.

You must complete the membership application and pay your membership fees online here. You can upload H class licence, affiliation cards, proof of holster qualification and participation records or bring them to the Membership Secretary at the Club House on a Sunday between 10:30 to 11:30 am for processing.

Step 3.

The DPC Committee will issue you a Certificate of Firearms Club Membership.

Juniors aged 10 to 12 years can apply for a Category H Sports Shooter Permit.

They must hold a Category H Sports Shooter Permit for at least 3 months prior to applying for a Club Junior Licence (12 – 18 years old).

The new member process must still be followed for Junior members (fees) but they must also provide:

• Letter from parent giving the junior permission to participate in sports shooting.

A parent or guardian must attend the club with a junior to be responsible for them at all times, with no exceptions. Written confirmation of another guardian or responsible adult accompanying a child is required, for example if they are coming with a family friend or existing club member.

The Club Junior Licence lasts until the junior turns 18, at which time they must apply for a full licence.

Associate members are affiliated with another pistol club as their primary club. The other club supports their H class licence.

Associate members join Darwin Pistol Club to avoid paying range fees every time they visit and so they can be included in club communications and activities.

The new member process must still be followed for Associate members (references, fees) but they must also provide:

• Name of primary club
• Proof of safety/holster assessment.

Interstate transfers are for people who hold H class licences in other Australian states or territories.

The new member process must still be followed for Interstate Transfer members (references, fees) but they must also provide:

• Letter of introduction from previous interstate club
• Proof of safety/holster assessment.

• Darwin Pistol Club does not charge a joining fee, only an annual club membership fee.
• Membership is current until 30 June of the year you join.
• Pro rata fee is available after January for new members only.

Categories and fees

• Ordinary membership: $260
• Family/student membership: $110
• Junior membership: $30
• Associate membership: $130
• Senior/concessional membership (over 65 years): $130
• Honorary and life membership: nil
• Committee membership: 50% of relevant fee
• Corporate membership: negotiated on application

Additional costs

Additional costs will apply, as you will need to hold current affiliation with one of these associations related to the discipline you intend to participate in:

• Pistol Australia (PA)
• International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC)
• Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (SSAA)
• International Confederation of Revolver Enthusiasts Australia (ICORE)
